Welcome Home Year 6

Our final day in France

No sooner had we packed our bags, stripped our beds and prepared our lunch than we were on the coach and heading off to Vimy Ridge to visit the Canadian National Vimy Memorial, a site dedicated to the memory of Canadian soldiers killed in World War One.

The children were a credit to themselves and the school as they visited the monument, respecting the solemnity of the location. We then visited the preserved trenches from the Battle of Vimy Ridge and were bombarded with questions about trench warfare.  Fortunately we had an expert on hand in the shape of Mr. Borland, resplendent in his WWI uniform.

After a brief lunch we sang 'Happy Birthday' to Jacob and celebrated with a slice of cake each.  Then it was back on the coach and back to Blighty, where we reunited the tired but happy children with their families.
