Visit to Vimy Ridge War Memorial
We stopped at the Canadian National War Memorial which was built on the site of the Battle of Vimy Ridge where the Canadian Expeditionary Force fought one of there toughest battles of the Great War. The beautiful and striking structure is there to remember the 60,000 Canadian troops who lost their lives in the conflict.
We also were able to look at some restored trenches and get an impression of what life might have been like for the soldiers of both sides. One of the children asked me why they spent so long fighting over such a small piece of land – sadly, I didn’t have an answer.
