Rising Stars at Queen's
Zac Goldsmith MP, accompanied by some Abbeyfield residents, attended Queen's Primary School assembly in Kew on Monday 7 July handing out awards to pupils, as part of a partnership to link young children with older people.
The Rising Stars Awards, sponsored by Abbeyfield, went to children who have shown enthusiasm and worked hard throughout the year.
Giving out the awards the MP for Richmond Park & North Kingston thanked Abbeyfield and said to the children, "One of the perks of the job as an MP is being able to visit places like Abbeyfield’s Palmer House and Queen’s School."
He explained that when visiting he had heard experiences from those who lived through the war and added that through this partnership between the school and Abbeyfield children and residents are able to share stories and learn about each other’s lives.
He said, "This is a wonderful project. They are lucky to have you visit them but you are also lucky to be able to learn from them."
The awards this year were given to:
Florence (Year 2) "for outstanding effort and commitment this year. This is particularly owing to her positive and enthusiastic attitude and contribution to learning."
Amir (Year 2) "for his outstanding effort and progress in all areas of work throughout Year 2, as well as his considerate and extremely well-mannered nature."
Elina (Year 6) "for coming such a long way since she started at Queen's and always working hard and putting in 100%."
Robert (Year 6) "for trying very hard to be more positive and self-confident."
