Children's Laureate Page
The role of Children's Laureate is awarded once every two years to an eminent author or illustrator of children's books to celebrate outstanding achievement in their field. You can find out more about the children's lauraeate award here http://www.childrenslaureate.org.uk
The current Laureate is Chris Riddell and he is the ninth author to be bestowed with the honour. Chris Riddell is a prolific writer and illustrator whose work is familiar to both children and adults. He is known especially for his distinctive line drawings with their clever caricature, fascinating detail and often enchanting fantasy elements. We are also thrilled that he has visited our school to talk about his books and how he started to write and illustrate.
Chris has written and/or illustrated many books and we have lots of them in our school library, why don't you take a look on your next visit.
BBC Radio 4 Open Book Children's Laureate Special
A recent edition of Open Book on Radio 4 was devoted to children’s books and featured a fascinating discussion with three Children’s Laureates, Malorie Blackman who was the last incumbent together with Dame Jaqueline Wilson and Michael Rosen both of whom are past Laureates.
They all firmly ask for story-telling to happen daily within school, an aim we fully believe in and do at The Queen's School, and to ask parents to continue reading with their children every night, just 10 minutes can do wonders in exploring the pleasurable world of books... discussing plots, characters, new ideas and new vocabulary.
