Parent Workshops 2018

We held our regular Parent Workshops in February.  The focus was ‘Mastering Maths’ (following on from our introduction in the Autumn Term) and ‘Grammar for Writing’.  You can find the slides from the evening below.

The workshops were

Mastering Maths in KS1 – suitable for reception, year 1 and year 2

Led by - Hilary Wilson – Phase 1 leader, Isabella James and Pippa Aston – Reception teachers

The mastery approach in maths for reception to year 2, including, number, place value, addition and subtraction. Understand the fundamentals of maths and feel confident to support your child in deepening their understanding using concrete resources.

Mastering Maths in KS2 – suitable for year 3 and year 4

Led by Abi Kay – Maths subject leader, Katherine Matheson Year 4 teacher

Apply the mastery approach to developing a greater understanding in using the 4 operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) and know which methods to use. Feel confident in using concrete resources to support your child to deepen their understanding in maths.

Development of Mastery in Maths in upper KS2 – suitable for year 5 and year 6

Led by James Merel and Yvonne Fryer – year 5 teachers

Using the mastery approach to build on existing knowledge of place value and the four operations, with particular consideration to the following areas: proportion (fractions, decimals and percentages) and ratio; supporting and extending your child through careful questioning; development of concrete to abstract across the upper key stage 2 curriculum and approaches to problem solving and reasoning.

Grammar Time – suitable for all year groups

Led by Mark Samuel – Phase 3 leader and Alex Megrah – English team

Understand the grammar requirements for all year groups and the correct vocabulary and terminology in order to better support your child in their writing.
