We held our regular Parent Workshops in February, you can find the slides from the evening below.
The workshops were
WORKSHOPS FOR Key stage one (KS1):
Phonics and Early year’s provision – suitable for reception Led by Miss James & Miss Sesay (Early years team)
Understand how phonics can support reading and writing and be confident in using the correct sounds. Explore the ways in which phonics is embedded in the curriculum and how children develop their reading and writing skills through play.
Mastering Maths in KS1 – suitable for reception, year 1 and 2 Led by Mrs Barchha & Miss Neilson (Maths team)
The mastery approach in maths for reception to year 2, including, number, place value, addition and subtraction. Understand the fundamentals of maths and feel confident to support your child in deepening their understanding through using resources.
The road to writing KS1 - suitable for year 1 and 2 Led by Miss Wilson (English subject leader) & Mrs Corpetti (Year 2 teacher)
This workshop will inform you of how writing progresses during Key Stage One and how you can support your child develop key writing skills. We will look at spelling and phonics, the link between talking and reading and the role of grammar.
WORKSHOPS FOR Key stage two (KS2):
Mastering Maths in KS2 – suitable for year 3,4,5,6 Led by Miss Dunk – (Maths subject leader) & Miss Aston (Year 3 teacher)
Apply the mastery approach to developing a greater understanding in using the 4 operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) and know which methods to use. Feel confident in using resources to support your child to deepen their understanding in maths. Understand how to support and extend your child’s mathematical thinking through careful questioning.
Developing higher level reading skills in KS2 – suitable for year 3,4,5,6 Led by Mr Samuel (Phase 3 leader), Miss Matheson (Year 4 teacher), Mrs Bushell (Year 3 teacher)
Look at ways to extend able readers: exploring a text in detail; expanding vocabulary; understanding inference and deduction; deriving meaning from context; supporting a deeper understanding of a text.
Becoming a confident, competent writer in KS2 –suitable for year 3,4,5,6 Led by Mr Megrah, Mr Merel (English team), Mrs Fryer (Year 5 teacher)
Improve writing across KS2 by looking at quality texts. The session will involve looking at a simple and a more advanced text on the same subject and working out what skills are needed to elevate one to the other. Feel confident with the kinds of questions to ask while reading with your child and understand how this can improve their writing.
