We welcome parent volunteers at Queens, whether helping in the lunch hall, reading with children, or helping supervise educational visits. To safeguard everyone, though, we do require all volunteers to follow our induction procedure.
This page is the school induction programme for parent helpers, student teachers, pre PGCE students, MFL students and work experience students only. If you do not fall into any of these categories you do not need to complete the instructions on this page.
All volunteers must have an Enhanced DBS check for the 'Child Workforce' before taking part in school activities with children. The application is done online here, but you will need to present your three items of identity verification in person in school. The official list of identification documents is here. We also ask that you pay, via Parentmail, the £9.50 fee that we are charged by our DBS agent for volunteer applications. If you already subscribe to the Update Service we can use that - please ask at the office for details.
Induction procedures - Volunteers
At The Queen’s School the aim of our induction programme is to ensure all volunteers understand and share the vision, Christian ethos and practices of the school and feel fully involved and able to produce a high standard of performance, as quickly as possible.
Effective induction is key to building a culture of continuous improvement. All newly appointed volunteers will receive a programme of structured support and guidance appropriate to their role, ensuring all individuals:
- Feel welcome and comfortable and integrate successfully into the school
- Understand the importance of the Christian ethos and school values and their role in promoting these
- Understand what is expected of them and are provided with support in meeting those expectations
- Are able to gain experience within the context of the school Vision priorities
- Are able to contribute to improving and developing the overall effectiveness of our school
- Are able to meet the needs of the whole school community
Overall induction is the responsibility of the Senior Leadership team (SLT).
The induction process applies to all newly appointed staff/volunteers and the specific induction programmes are designed to meet the needs of the different roles within the school.
Interviews will take place for any volunteers applying independently i.e. not applying through any colleges/ schools already linked with or known to The Queen’s School.
Records will be kept detailing when the induction has taken place.
Regular evaluation of the process will inform the SLT of the need for further support and of any changes required to the induction process/ procedures.
All documents for induction are accessed through The Queen’s School website.
Parent volunteers/ Pre PGCE, MFL work experience students and student teachers.
